Buckeye #245 - Sold

    Buckeye #245 - Sold

This 12" walnut banjo has goat skin head and a persimmon tone ring.  The head is lightly stained with black tea and treated with a thin coat of shellac to give it an aged look and reduce changes due to humidity.  Its major distinguishing feature is the beautiful curly maple that is used on the peghead overlay as well as the heel cap, rim cap and binding.  Besides this elegant accent it is minimally ornamented with small dot position markers.

In terms of playability, it has a short 25" scale which puts less tension on the strings giving it a slightly looser feel than a typical 25-1/2" scale.  It also has an extra deep 3-1/4" rim which adds some additional bass to the mix.  These specs give it a rich woody tone with lots of low end.  Surprisingly, it is quite loud and punchy, though, and should cut through well when playing with other instruments.

Additionally, I tried a new 5th string transition on this banjo.  Instead of the traditional rounded neck profile, I added a small flat area so that the 5th string tuner would sit flush with the neck rather than have the lower part of it exposed.  I was very happy with the way this turned out, and it seems like it will help hold the tuner in place better.

Also, included with the banjo are an extra 5/8" bridge in case you want to lower the action, a nut wrench, an Allen wrench to adjust the two-way adjustable truss rod in the neck, an extra set of strings, a couple of Buckeye Banjos Stickers, and a good luck Buckeye from our property.

      Buckeye #239 - Sold

This banjo has a 12" rim and a highly figured curly maple neck with a rich amber stain.  It has a small rolled brass tone ring and tea stained goat skin head treated with a thin coat of shellac to reduce changes due to humidity.    It is minimally ornamented but does have black/white veneers down the center of the neck and under all trim wood as well as a brass scoop plate.  These specs give it a nice balanced tone, with lots of punch and clarity and a surprising amount of low end.

Also, included with the banjo are several extra bridges in various heights and weights which will allow you to customize the tone and playability of the banjo.

This banjo is simple, yet elegant and has a beautiful, balanced tone which would work well in any playing situation.  It is easy to play and has enough projection to cut through when needed, but also has a sweet, mellow voice that will sound good played solo, or with just a fiddler.

It is made from a gorgeous piece of very dense, reddish walnut which has a slight bit of figure in the heel.  There are thin white/black veneers down the center of the neck and under all the trim wood.  While the front of the instrument remains relatively unadorned, the heel features a classic engraved ornament.  Experimental details include BUCKEYE stamped into the wood at the base of the scoop and a rounded over rim cap on the interior of the rim.
