Effect:
Buckeye tailpieces increase the projection and note clarity of your banjo without significantly increasing its brightness. Because they are slightly longer than the standard No-Knot tailpieces most old-time musicians use, they increase the angle of the strings as they go over the bridge, which in turn increases the downward pressure on the bridge. This increased pressure on the head adds a little pop, or punch, to your banjo while also slightly increasing the volume.
Design:
The tailpieces are my own design, but highly influenced by classic, late 19th Century designs. They are cast in small batches using a lost wax technique, which gives them a warm organic look and feel. It should be noted, however, that because they are hand cast, there may be small irregularities in the surface due to the casting process.
Details:
The tailpieces are cast in bronze, and are available in Raw Bronze, Aged Bronze and Nickel-Plated Bronze. The Raw Bronze and Aged Bronze will match brass hardware, and aged brass hardware, respectively. They are 1-1/4" long with a 1" long tail, so they can be used with deeper rims, and weigh approximately 21g (28g with the bolt and nut). The opening is large so that strings can easily be fed under the front bar, and there is a deep groove on each post to hold the loop end of your strings.
